No they didn’t. It’s a bland slab of boring.

I’m sure I knew academically that these existed, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one until now.  I know I’ve never seen one in the steel, and I certainly wasn’t Lincoln’s demographic for advertising.  The front end has certainly aged well.

I like the simplicity.

I like simple styling. It has strong lines. I also really love the 2005-2009 Mustang because of the absurd level of retrofuturistic “essence of Mustang” that it exudes. How do we make a Mustang? Take a block and add fender flares and vaguely throwback headlights and tail lights. Done.

All of the cars on this platform were shockingly competent. My father had a 2010 Fusion V6 AWD as a commuter and took it to nearly 200k miles without major issues. He replaced it with a lightly used Avalon and swears the Fusion was quieter.

This is the hottest take since I burnt my hand grabbing a hot cast-iron pan handle on Monday.

Didn’t they have trans issues though? Or am I thinking of the previous gen? I hardly ever see cars on this platform rolling around.

Back then, most of the cars looked rather boring to me.

Now, looking back from what the styling has become, I miss those clean and uncluttered styles. Mazda seems to be the only one trying to keep the clean styling alive.

The thing that bothers me about the MK names is that given Lincoln’s history and the way they were written, it seems extremely likely that the original intention was to pronounce the MK as Mark, so this would be the Lincoln Mark Z. That would have stuck a lot better than their letter jumble, but I guess some Lincoln marketing person disagrees with me.

Yeah, I imagine that they tossed that around early on, then bagged it?

I think they have always put that last letter in a different font, and sometimes separated it from the ‘MK’, but I think it would have been blasphemy to call every car in the lineup a “Mark (x)“ - the Marks were always a premium car, even within the Lincoln lineup.

I think the trans and awd ptu were their weakest points, but with some luck and fluid changes, you could definitely keep one rolling for a long time.

I feel like they are the mid-late 2000s Grand Am/Alero. No one really wants one, but if you need cheap mid sized transportation that won’t let you down, then these cars are a good way to go.

of coarse looks wise they are a huge upgrade from a Grand AM.

Yes. My wife can not remember what my car is called. she was checking in at a Hotel and she had to come back to the car and ask me what it was called. Because 328i Xdrive isn’t as memorable as a real name, also i kinda hate that is isn’t just a 328xi . I keep telling her she can just say 3 series but that isn’t working either.

I had an 08 and a 12 Fusion, I can honestly say he’s wrong about that. If his Avalon is louder he should probably look into that.

Interiors in these don’t age well however...especially the Fusion variant. Dash is a big problem in the 1st gen pre redesign offerings.Otherwise just an OK appliance that’s just not as good as the Japanese equivalents.

They were decent cars, but I just never really cared for them- shared way too many obvious parts with the Fusion -  doors, glass, a-b-c pillars, roof - from the side, it was nearly indistinguishable from a Ford. They did a nice job on the wood trim inside, though. Not overly finished, so you could still see the grain.
